HIGGINS, GEORGE A.- The death of George A. Higgins, of East Saint John occurred on Thursday September 17, 2009 at his residence. Born 1919 in Tatamagouche, NS, raised in East New Annan, he was the son of the late George R. Higgins Sr. and Jennie E. (Chaples) Higgins. George worked for CNR as a locomotive engineer for 39 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Park Avenue United Church, a 3rd Degree Mason of Masonic Lodge Germain Street and Hibernia Lodge # 3. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Grace M. (Robichaud) Higgins in June 2008, brother Everette Higgins, son-in-law Hazen Weir (Sonny), sister-in-law Olga Higgins; infant great grandchild and several half sisters and brothers. He is survived by his son Robert Higgins (Judy) of Wells, NB; daughters, Mary Farrer (Robert) of Saint John and Georgina Weir of Midland; brother Russell Higgins; sisters-in-law Alice Roberts of River John, NS and Margaret Robichaud of Rexton, NB; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitations on Sunday September 20, 2009 from 7-9 p.m., Monday September 21, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday September 22, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Ocean View Memorial Gardens.
