HUGHES, LEONARD PATRICK - Leonard Patrick Hughes of Willow Grove, devoted husband of 50 years to Pauline (Richardson) Hughes, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, October 1st, 2009. Born in 1935 on the St. Mary's Rd. Sturgeon, PEI to the late Thomas and Bertha (Mahar) Hughes. Leonard was a Mechanic by trade, working with SMT in earlier years and later working for Smith Transport; later called Interlink Transport, retiring in 1996. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Leonard was an avid hockey and baseball fan; his favorite baseball team being the New York Yankees. Devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He loved spending time with his family especially camping in PEI, playing cards and driving in his Ford truck to Tim Horton's. Besides his wife Pauline, Leonard is survived by his daughters, Donna Callaghan (Daryle) of Oromocto and Mary Anne Bainbridge of Saint John; grandchildren, Kiana, Mathew, Jordan, Kaitlyn and Bryce; brothers, Reginald (Carol) of Saint John and Cecil (Eunice) of PEI; sisters, Sydella Pye and Margaret Hughes (Louis) both of PEI; many nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents Leonard was predeceased by his brothers, Thomas and Herman and sisters, Bridget Savidant and Mary Murphy. Resting at the Fundy Funeral Home 230 Westmorland Rd (646-2424) with visitation on Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church 4347 Loch Lomond Rd. on Saturday October 3rd, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
