MARTHA MCLEISH FLEETING CLIFFORD
CLIFFORD, MARTHA MCLEISH FLEETING - The sudden death of Martha Clifford occurred in Dalhousie on October 26, 2009. Born in Churnside, Scotland on November 19th, 1922, Martha was the daughter of the late James and Janet Fleeting. Martha was pre-deceased by her brother Bill of Scotland and her daughter, Dawn of Montreal (2005). Martha loved life - she was very artistic and loved to paint; she smocked, knitted and sewed for her five children, nieces and grand children and had a magical touch with flowers. Over the years Martha was an active member of her community: she was a member of the Home and School Association; helped to decorate many school gymnasiums; was a Brownie leader; and a champion curler. She was also an avid bridge player and loved to cross country ski (even when her eye sight began to fail her!). She loved to entertain and was a wonderful hostess! Martha also loved to sing, and for many years was a member of the Chaleur Echoes. Martha will be sadly missed by her husband Ray of 65 years and her children (Jim, Gail, Lenwood and Laurie); 13 grand children; 10 great grand children; special niece Colleen McGarvie, her sister Francis Humphrey (and brother in law Fred) and nieces Allison and Carol. Her family would like to thank Rose and her team for the wonderful care they provided Martha during her stay. A private memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at the home of Lenwood in Saint Maure on Thursday, October 29th at 1:30 pm. Those who wish or in lieu of flowers, memorials in Martha's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
