GEDDES, M. CATHERINE (CATHY) - 58 - North Sydney/ Quispamsis N.B. - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Catherine (Cathy) Geddes age 58 resident of Parkview Place, North Sydney, formerly of Quispamsis N.B. on Tuesday November 3, 2009 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in North Sydney, Cathy was the daughter of Ada (Stamper) Murphy of North Sydney and of the late Hughie Murphy. She was employed for a number of years with C.N. Marine in North Sydney and later Via Rail in Halifax. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. Cathy and her husband Lowell were residents of Quispamsis, N.B. for 22 years, returning to live in North Sydney just a few months ago. She was a member and group leader with the Carcinoid NeuroEndocrine Tumor Society of Canada. She was the first woman in Eastern Canada to receive a new type of treatment for her disease. Cathy loved reading, cooking, flowers, art, sewing, animals, crossword puzzles and had a perfect score on the New York Times crossword on several occasions, she also enjoyed entertaining in her home especially past students of Lowell's who would visit and the times her and Lowell went touring on motorcycles. Cathy was a gentle, graceful lady who always lived her life with a positive attitude and she was a great inspiration who helped many other people in their struggle with Carcinoid NeuroEndocrine Tumors. Surviving besides her mother Ada Murphy, is her husband Lowell Geddes; two brothers Jim Murphy, North Sydney, Tom (Maureen) Murphy, Sydney Mines; niece Angie Murphy, Calgary; mother in law Mona Geddes, North Sydney; and sister in law Joanne (Jim) MacDonald, Ottawa. She was predeceased by her father, Hughie Murphy and father in law, Vernon Geddes. No visitation by request. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 am Saturday at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Jim Attwood officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Carcinoid NeuroEndocrine Tumor Society of Canada, 4103-3219 Yonge Street, Toronto, M4N 3S1.
