HOLMES, ALPHONSINA MARIE - The death of Mrs. Alphonsina M. Holmes, wife of the late George Joseph Holmes occurred on November 5, 2009 at the Dr. V. A. Snow Nursing Home, Hampton. Mrs. Holmes was a wonderful mother and wife, as well as being a talented musician and gifted artist. She is survived by daughters, Alice Mennier and Gemma (Francis) Haggarty, all of Saint John; and son, John (Phyllis) Holmes of Hampton; son-in-law, Andrew Valdron; daughter-in-law, Bernice Holmes; 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by her son, Robert Holmes; and daughter, Mary Valdron; and several brothers and sisters. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Castle "Fallsview" Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John West (634-1701). By request, there will be no visiting at the funeral home. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Saturday at 10 am from Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cerebral Palsy Foundation, Downe Syndrome, Canadian Cancer Society, or the Dr. V. A.
