Evert Roy Comstock
December 8, 1928 - February 11, 2009
Evert Comstock was born on December 8, 1928 to Evert and Betty Comstock of the Mitchellton district in Saskatchewan. An only child, Evert was the apple of his mother\'s eye and his father\'s right hand man as he grew up and helped on the farm in those early years. In 1946 or thereabouts Evert met a young school teacher in Mitchellton by the name of Eileen Kopperud. Several years later, after an appropriate amount of courting and the requisite number of requests, Eileen agreed to become Evert\'s wife and they were married in January of 1949. Evert\'s life was characterized by hard work and a great dedication to his family, the land and his neighbours. He had an incredible aptitude for things mechanical -if it had a motor, wheels or gears, he could drive it, operate it and fix it. Ask any of his neighbours about who their go-to-man was when there was an equipment problem that needed fixing - they will all be able to tell you a story or two about the time Ev came over and solved what had looked to be impossible. Evert and Eileen farmed together for many years when health problems forced him into retirement Ev had taken 55 harvests off his land. He didn\'t just farm for a living he was a farmer right down to his last bone. Evert and Eileen had 4 children: Lyle (Eva Wisner, Battleford), Anne (died at birth), Keith (Janet Harder, Regina), and Karen (Jim Burke, Calgary). Six grandchildren and five great grandchildren, so far, round out the family. Eileen died in 2001 and the years since were not particularly kind to Evert. He was forced to move to Regina in 2004 after his own battle with cancer and while he was closer to family, it wasn\'t the same for him. Evert will always be loved and remembered by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as the members of the community of Mitchellton. Donations in Evert\'s name may be made to the Allan Blair Memorial Cancer Clinic at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina. A service to celebrate Evert\'s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 15th at W.J. Jones and Son Funeral Chapel in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Rev. Doug Shepherd will officiate. Interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery at a later date. In living memory of Evert, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
