GRACE MILLICENT TURNER (DICK)

TURNER (DICK), GRACE MILLICENT - 88, Dartmouth, passed away comfortably in her home on Sunday, December 6, 2009, surrounded by her three children. Born in Saint John, N.B., she was a daughter of the late Oscar John and Ethel (Bannister) Dick. She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Douglas Roy Turner. Grace was an active member of Christ Church, Dartmouth for over 50 years. She had been a leader of the JA's and a longstanding member of the ACW where she held the position of president for many years. She introduced the tradition of the Baptismal banners in Christ Church and was very proud to present them to the newly christened members of the church. Her family and friends were very important to her and she loved helping them in any way she could. She enjoyed being a member of her bridge club and played up until this Spring. She was extremely proud to be a "Navy wife" and it was with great passion that both Mom and Dad became trustees of the HMCS Sackville. She maintained the friendships and fond memories that were built through those Navy years. She is survived by her son, Lawrence Turner (Jane) of Dartmouth; daughters, Carol Byers (David) of New Annan; Judith Turner of Dartmouth; grandchildren, Karen Turner and Blair Turner, Chris Byers, Scott Byers, Kimberley Byers and Michael Byers, Bradley Stinson and Ryan Stinson; four great-grandsons. She is also survived by her sister, Winifred Walsh, Saint John, N.B.; brother, Harold Dick (Marion), Brockville, Ont.; sister-in-law, Evelyn Dick, and brother-in-law Bert Oldfield, both of Saint John, N.B.; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Ken Dick, Ralph Dick, Bartlett Dick, Hazen Dick, and sister Helen Oldfield. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, December 9 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St., Dartmouth. Funeral service will be held Thursday, December 10 at 2 pm in Christ Church, Ochterloney Street, Dartmouth. Interment will be at a later date.
