DAMON, HAZEN EMERY - The death of Hazen Damon of Hampton, NB, husband of Doreen (Taylor) Damon, occurred Wednesday, December 16th, 2009, at his residence. Born in Saint John, NB, on January 23rd, 1926, he was the son of the late John and Gladys (Wanamaker) Damon. Hazen was a veteran of World War II. He returned from England in the Fall of 1946 with his bride Doreen. Hazen's grocery career started with Atlantic Wholesalers. He soon became manager of the Save-Easy located on Carmarthen Street and from there he opened and managed all the Save-Easy stores in Saint John. His first franchise store, with wife Doreen, was in 1975 and in 1977 they moved to Hampton to open the Save-Easy there. In 1988 he retired from the grocery business and spent his winters in Florida. Hazen was an avid horseman and was well known at the Exhibition Park Raceway. Besides his wife, Doreen, Hazen is also survived by two daughters, Ann Burke (Gerry) of Calgary and Coleen Damon (Brian) of Cambridge Narrows; two sons, Alan Damon (Alice) of Hampton and Tony Damon of Bloomfield; two brothers, Ken Damon and Doug Damon both of Saint John; seven much loved grandchildren, Kristen Schneidmiller, Tracey Greenslade, Colin Jardine, Craig Jardine, Angela Ryan, Neil Damon and Grace Damon; several precious great-grandchildren; as well as, numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Hazen was also predeceased by two sisters; Florence Marshall and Dorothy McNamara and three brothers, Walter, Robert and Ronald Damon. Arrangements are entrusted to Reid's Funeral Home, 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, (506) 832-5541, with visitation on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A memorial service will be held from the chapel of Reid's Funeral Home on Saturday, December 19th, 2009 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in the Church of the Ascension Cemetery, Lower Norton.
