HUGH ANGUS CANNELL

CANNELL, HUGH ANGUS - The death of Hugh Angus Cannell of Hampton, husband of the late Brenda (Violette) Cannell, occurred January 3, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Hugh was born in Halifax, son of the late Robert and Edith (Angus) Cannell. Chief among Hugh's passions was sailing; he was a member of the Rothesay Yacht club for many years and made many friends in the sailing community. Hugh loved playing piano, creative writing, and chess. He was passionate about travelling, and was busy teaching himself Spanish. Hugh practiced law in Saint John for many years, taught at the Bar Admissions Course and was currently practicing from home. He was active in his community, having been involved in the establishment of the Hampton Daycare, and serving on the Board of Directors of Saint John Family Services. Hugh was a volunteer for the Hampton River Runners and was an enthusiastic member of the Celtic musical group Comholtas. He is survived by one daughter, Sarah Cannell Westphal (Jonathan), Hampton; one son, Robert Cannell, Hampton; two sisters, Joan Cannell, Toronto, Lois Thompson, Quispamsis; and several nieces and nephews. Hugh was looking forward to seeing his first grandchild. Resting at Reid's Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton with visitation Wednesday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, January 7, 2010, at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Hampton with Rev. Leo Martin officiating, followed by a reception at the Hampton River Centre. Interment will take place in the spring. Memorial may be made to NB Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society. www.reidsfh.com
