WHELAN, George Edward — Passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family, at the Health Sciences Complex, on Friday, February 13, 2009, George Edward Whelan of Riverhead, S.M.B., aged 67 years. Predeceased by parents Jack and Sadie Whelan, daughters Jackie and Shari, grandson John; brothers: John, Patrick and Michael, sister Sr. Josephine; brothers-in-law: Harold, Rhody and Nick, and parents-in-law Oswald and Johannah Kelly. Remembered lovingly by wife Mary (Kelly); children: George (Charlie), Teresa (John), Anne (Billy), Cheryl (Dave), Geraldine, Bobby, Marie and daughter-in-law Bev; brothers and sisters: Des (Barb), Basil (Laura), Cecelia (Richard), Uriel (Angus), Nancy (Terry) and Richard; brothers and sisters-in-law: Rachel (Gerry), Betty (Bert), Kay, Stella, Clare (Willie), Stephen (Barb) and Gene (Madonna); grandchildren: Stephen, Justin, Kayla, Kyle, Samantha, Michael, Ethan and Deana, great-granddaughter Cassidy, special nephew Leroy as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including his special buddies in the Riverhead Volunteer Fire Department, the fisheries and the hospital (both staff and patients). Resting at Gibbons’ Funeral Home, St. Mary’s, on Saturday, February 14, 2009, from 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, February 15, 2009, 2 to 9 p.m. and Monday, February 16, 2009, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. There will be no visitation on Tuesday. Mass of Christian burial to take place on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Church, Riverhead. Burial to follow at Riverhead.
