James MacElwain
James MacElwain 1923-2003 James R. MacElwain, 80, passed away peacefully at the Veterans Health Center, on Tuesday, June 24th, 2003 following a lengthy illness. Born in Chipman NB, he was the son of the late Fred and Lillian (Saunders) MacElwain. Jim was a current member of Ivanhoe Preceptory # 36, Tantramar Council # 8, Moncton Shrine Club, Coverdale Lodge # 52 F&AM as well as the Royal Canadian Legion Moncton Branch # 6. Jim was a life member of the Elks Club and the "Nummies". He was past president of the Moncton Golf and Country Club and past president of the Beaver Curling Club. Jim served overseas during World War II with the RAF as a Spitfire fighter pilot, receiving many medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross. Jim will be sadly missed by his loving wife Judy; his daughters, Ruthanne, of Riverview; sons, Terry (Leslie) of Calgary, David of Calgary, Bob of Comox Valley BC., Chris (Terri) of Riverview; a brother David (Bertha) of ON.; Three step children, Robyn Murray (Ian) of Dartmouth, Chip Ross (Ann) of NY, Shane Ross (Beth) of Bedford, NS, 12 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by one sister Florence. By family request, there will be no visitation. All are welcome to attend a Legion Service to be held at 1 PM prior to the funeral service to be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, June 27 , in the chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home. A reception for Jim's friends and family will follow in the Garden View Reception Room of the funeral home. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation, The Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of choice. Interment in Fairhaven Memorial Gardens.
