Gerald Brian Ward of Fredericton occurred suddenly Wednesday

Gerald Brian Ward FREDERICTON, NB - The death of Gerald Brian Ward of Fredericton occurred suddenly on Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born in Chicoutimi, Quebec, he was predeceased by his parents Lovel (Cleary) Ward and John Ward. Gerry is survived by his wife Nancy (Ritchie) of 33 years; son Michael and his wife Lisa and special granddaughter Grace of Ottawa; daughter Heather of Toronto; son Andrew of Ottawa; brother, Brendan and sister Lorraine. Gerry was a Civil Engineering Professor (1966-1999) at the University of New Brunswick with over 30 years of professional involvement in environmental work. He had a passion for teaching and was founding Director of the Master of Engineering Program in Environmental Studies. He was proud to bestow iron rings on both of his sons. He studied at St. Francis Xavier (1960), UNB (1962), and received his MSc from Northwestern University (1964). In 2001, Gerry received a Life Membership with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick. His career accomplishments include military, politics, consulting, academic, municipal and international service. Gerry attended CMR (Mtl) and was a flight Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Air Force until 1966. He worked with the WHO on projects in Morocco, Eastern Europe and Denmark. He was an involved City Councillor and Mayoral Candidate in Fredericton during the 1980s and, as Chairman of the 1984 Bicentennial Committee, he and Nancy welcomed the Queen. He was a loving husband and father and will be remembered for his warm heart, innovative mind, spirit of adventure, sense of humour and love of reading, travel and cuisine. He will be sadly missed. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, June 28, 2003 at 2:00 pm at Christ Church Cathedral. The Very Reverend Keith Joyce officiating.
