Mabel Victoria (Duffy) Bateman SHEDIAC CAPE, NB - Mabel Victoria (Duffy) Bateman, born July 12, 1908, in Shenstone, Albert County, NB died at home in Shediac Cape on July 4, 2003 at the age of 94. She was the last surviving member of the immediate family of the late Isaiah Duffy and Nettie (Bishop) Duffy of Albert County. She is survived by her daughters, Della Bateman at home, Myrtle Bateman of Bateman's Mills, Noreen (Bateman) Johansen (late Peter) of Belleisle Creek; sons, Cecil Bateman (Noreen) of Osbourne Corner, Ralph Bateman of Sussex, and Lee Bateman (Linda) of Shediac Cape. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Harold Wellesley Bateman (1963); an infant daughter, Dora (1953), also by her three brothers, Basil, Mike and Ford; three sisters, Grace Berryman, Florence Colpitts, and Doris Duffy. Mabel was a schoolteacher for many years. Before getting married she taught in rural New Brunswick schools. When her children were of school age, she returned to teaching, mostly in the greater Moncton area. Visiting hours will be held at Cadman's Funeral Home, 114 Alma Street, Moncton on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The Funeral service will be at the Saint Martins In-The Woods Anglican Church on Monday, July 7, 2003 at 3:30 pm with Captain Hugh Bateman officiating. The interment will take place in the church cemetery. Following the service there will be a reception in the church hall. Flowers or donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
