Edward Andrew Elderkin 1935 - 2003 RIVERSIDE-ALBERT, NB - Edward Andrew Elderkin, 68, of Riverside-Albert passed away on August 3, 2003 at his home with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Apple River, Cumberland Co., NS on June 14, 1935 he was the son of the late Guy and Emily (Wilson) Elderkin. Ed was a member of the Holy Ghost Catholic Church. He was a welder and worked for various petroleum companies throughout his career before starting his own company of Ed's Welding which he operated for 35 years until his retirement. He was a very respected businessman known throughout the community for his kindness and having a smile for those around him. He was always willing to help when needed day or night. He also sponsored a hockey team and ball team for several years. He loved hunting and fishing and time spent outdoors. However the most important thing to Ed was his family, he was always making sure his family was looked after and enjoyed all the times spent with his devoted wife and his loving children and grandchildren. During his last days having his family by his side meant the world to him. Ed was known for his stories and enjoyed telling a good joke, his family really loved his great sense of humour. He was a great man who will be missed by all who knew him. He was a beloved husband who will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 44 years, Grace (McKinley) Elderkin; his beloved children, Tim Elderkin, Wyman Elderkin (Loretta), Jeff Elderkin (Carol) and Bernadette Elliott (Scott) all of Riverside-Albert; his precious grandchildren, David, Amy, Jordan, Erica, Joseph and Amanda; his four sisters, Dorothy Wilt of Riverside-Albert, Ferne LeBlanc (Eric) Of PEI, June Cormier of Riverview and Mildred Brewster (Arden) of Riverside-Albert; also by his brother, William Elderkin (Golda) of RiversideAlbert. He will also be greatly missed by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased besides his parents by three sisters, Zenith Elliott, Carol Palmer, Virginia MacNutt; seven brothers, Douglas, Clifford, Sherman, Verdun, Sydney, Wyman and Ellison. The remains will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home, Hopewell Cape with visitation on Monday 2-4 and 7-9pm. The funeral Mass will be held at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church on Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at 2pm with Father Bernard Sloan Officiating. The internment will be held in the Holy Ghost Cemetery, Hopewell Hill, NB. Following the service the family will be meeting with family and friends at the Fundy Curling Club for further sharing of memories and refreshments. Donations to the Extra Mural or to the Forest Dale Home Van Fund would be greatly appreciated by the family.
