Katherine Cecilia (Kathleen) Keating MIRAMICHI, NB - The death of Katherine Cecilia (Kathleen) Keating of Rennie Road, Miramichi, N.B. occurred at the Region 7 Hospital, Miramichi, N.B. Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at the age of 91 years. Kathleen was born in Douglasfield, N.B. in 1911 and was the daughter of the late John P. and Josephine (Riley) Keating. She was a graduate of Saint Michael's Academy High School, Chatham, N.B. and of Normal School, Fredericton, N.B. She taught for ten years. Following her teaching years at local schools in the area, Bayside, Napan and Douglasfield, her teaching career ended with a new one beginning in Ottawa, Ont. where she was employed by the Government of Canada in the Department of National Defence until her retirement in 1976. She returned to Miramichi in January 2003. She was a member of Saint Theresa's Parish, Ottawa, Ont. and most recently Saint Samuel's Parish, Miramichi, N.B. She was a member of the Catholic Women's League and a member of the Chauviere Golf Club greater Ottawa area. She is survived by 10 nieces and four nephews, Lillian, William, Audrey, Bernard, Joan, Joyce, Marilyn, Bernadette, Mary, Maureen, Michael, Wayne, Sharon, Cathy, and also by a number of grand nieces and nephews; one sisterin-law, Mrs. Byron Keating, Saint John, N.B. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by one sister, Mary (May) Keating and four brothers, Thomas, Joseph, Louis and Byron; a nephew, John Keating, who died recently. Resting at Mahers Funeral Home, 35 University Ave., Miramichi (773-4321) with visiting hours Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, August 8, 2003, 11 a.m. at Saint Michaels Basilica, Miramichi with Father John Fraser officiating. Interment in Saint Michaels Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
