Howard George Trueman

Howard George Trueman 1908-2003 SACKVILLE, N.B.- The death of Howard George Trueman occurred August 15, 2003 at the Drew Nursing Home in Sackville, N.B. Born in 1908 at Point de Bute he was a son of the late William A. and Eugenia (Hicks) Trueman and spent his life farming at Prospect Farm, the ancestral home of the Trueman family since they emigrated from Yorkshire in 1774. He held leadership roles in many agricultural and community organizations throughout his lifetime and served as President of the New Brunswick Milk Producers Association, President of Sackville and Westmorland Agricultural Society, Vice-President of the Maritime Winter Fair as well as a representative to The Dairy Farmers of Canada. He was appointed to the Advisory Committee of the Maritime Marsh Reclamation Association and for nineteen years served as a Westmorland County Councillor. In 1974 he received an Award of Merit from the New Brunswick Ayrshire Breeders and the New Brunswick Artificial Insemination Co-Op for outstanding contributions to the industry. The Ayrshire Association of Canada made him Honorary Life Member. In 1986 he was inducted into the New Brunswick Dairy Hall of Fame and in 2001 was named Farmer of the Year by the Botsford Westmorland Agricultural Society. He is survived by two sons, George (Karen) Trueman and Ronald (Susan) Trueman both of Point de Bute, N.B.; two daughters, Margaret (Terence) Moorehead of Summerside, PEI and Eugenia (Bruce) Coates of Point de Bute, N.B.; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two wives, Mary (Gaskin) in 1941 and Eva (Freeman) in 1994; one sister, Isobel Sloan; one brother, Raymond as well as two grandsons. Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell's Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by request of the family. A memorial service will be held at the Jolicure United Church on September 6, 2003 at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Howard's memory may be made to the Sackville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Drew Nursing Home, the CNIB or to the charity of ones choice.
