Glen D. Martel
Glen D. Martel 1937 - 2003 The death of Glen D. Martel, age 66 years, of Riverview and Bel Air Beach occurred on Sunday, October 5, 2003 at his Riverview home. He was born in Alida, Saskatchewan. Following high school, he joined the RCAF where he was employed as a radio officer and later as a pilot. Upon retirement from The Canadian Forces, he joined Transport Canada in Moncton as a Civil Aviation Inspector, retiring in 1995. During his military career, he obtained BSc and MSc degrees from The University of Manitoba. He was active as an amateur radio operator, holding the call sign VE9GM. He was a member of the Moncton Area Amateur Radio Club, and a charter member of The Moncton Seniors Amateur Radio Club. He was a designated examiner on behalf of Industry Canada. Glen was a past member of the United Services Institute and a lifetime member of the Riverview Veterans and Armed Forces Association. Glen also enjoyed hunting, cottage life at Bel Air Beach, traveling and had a great desire for learning therefore he loved reading. He is survived by wife, Rose-Marie (Goguen) Martel; daughters, Theresa (Robert) Finney of Sioux Lookout, ON, Sharron of Winnipeg; son, Trevor of Sioux Lookout, ON, step-daughters, Nicole (Richard) Roy of Sainte Marie de Kent, Christine (Gilles) Caissie of Cote Sainte-Anne; step-son, Marc (Lisette) LeBlanc of Moncton; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Andrea, Savannah, Ashley and Jeremie; mother-in-law, Irene Goguen (late Leonide); brothers-in-law, Ronald (Doris) Goguen of Bouctouche, Jacques (Ella) Goguen, of Moncton, Emery (Clara) Goguen, Francis (Mary) Goguen both of Bathurst and sister-in-law, Lucille (Paul) Breau, of Dieppe; and Achilla Martel of Surrey BC; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Mertie (Burns) and Leo Martel, and infant son, Bradley; and a brother, Foster. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Resting at The Riverview Funeral Home Wednesday October 8, 2003 from 2:00-4:00 pm & 7:00-9:00 pm The funeral service will be held at The Riverview Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, October 9, 2003 at 10:00 am with Joann Mallett officiating. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Roman Catholic Church. In Glen's memory, donations made to The Oncology Department, at the G.L. Dumont Hospital, The Oncology Department. at the Friends of The Moncton Hospital or to The Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by his family.
