William Lawrence "Bill" Johnston TRURO, NS - William Lawrence "Bill" Johnston, 57, of Bridgeview Drive, Truro, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after he lost his courageous battle with cancer in the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro on October 25, 2003. Bill was a stepson of Ardith (Medill) Johnston, Palmerston, Ont. and a son of the late William G. Johnston. He was a member of the Black Watch and went on to serve as a proud member of our Canadian Armed Forces. He retired after 20 years of service with the rank of Master Corporal. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Palmerston Branch #409. Over the last several years, he worked with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires at the Colchester Regional Hospital. He loved working with all the staff there over the last few years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman with many fish stories to tell and this came only second to taking rides on his motorcycle. He will be missed by many whose lives he touched over the years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Diane; daughters, Kim (Tim) Zinck, Shelly (Bunty) Soni, both of Halifax; sister, Connie (Conrad) Noble, Gowanstown, Ont.; grandsons, Michael and Taylor; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his natural mother, Margaret McClure. No visitation by request. Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will take place, Tuesday, October 28, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street with Rev. Larry Harrison officiating. A reception for family and friends will be held immediately following the service. Donations in Bill's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, the Pallative Care Unit of the Colchester Regional Hospital or a charity of choice.
