Harris R. Mitton
Harris R. Mitton 1921-2003 Harris R. Mitton 82, of Moncton passed away at the Moncton Hospital on Tuesday November 11, 2003. Born in Middle Coverdale, Harris was the eldest son of the late Beverly J. and Laura (Wood) Mitton. Harris will be remembered for his active involvement in the community including the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation, Central United Church, the Moncton Friendship Club, Keith Lodge #23 F & AM and the Moncton Probus Club. He was also a member of the Moncton Golf and Country Club and the Beaver Curling Club. A champion curler Harris represented New Brunswick at the 1953 Briar and Nova Scotia at the 1979 Canadian Senior Curling Championships and he was never one to turn down a good game of bridge or cribbage. A veteran of the 2nd World War, he served overseas with The Canadian Army and was a respected businessman throughout the Maritime Provinces. He is survived by his wife, Helen (Honey) (McKee) Mitton; five children, Janet Samuels (Cliff), Nancy Adams (Brian), Claire Mitton, Allison Mitton all of Calgary, Ross Mitton (Karen), Windsor, ON. He will be remembered by eight grandchildren; three brothers, Edgar (Ruby), Ronald (Mavis), Kenneth (Jean), Riverview. Several nieces and nephews. No visitation by personal request. Funeral Service at Central United Church, Monday November 17, 2003, 10am, the Rev. Dr. Jim MacDonald officiating. Reception in the church hall following the service. Interment, Fair Haven Cemetery.
