Joseph "Joe" Peters of Saint John, N.B., passed away on Monday, February 23, 2009, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Palmer Road, Prince Edward Island, on January 29, 1923, he was a son of the late John Patrick and Veronica (Bernard) Peters, both of Prince Edward Island. Joe was a veteran of the Second World War. He served as a naval officer from 1940 to 1970 on many Royal Canadian Navy ships, including the HMCS Cresent, Kootenay, Haida and Lanark as Chief Petty Officer and also was Range Officer at Stadacona, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Joe was a long time member of the Cathedral Parish. Joe was predeceased by his wife, Lauza (Gionet) Peters; his brothers, George and Leo; his sisters, Olive, Minnie, Lorette, Aldine, Elma, Alma, Gertrude and Helen. He is survived by his brother, Alphonse of Sheet Harbour, Nova Scotia; his children, Jill, Sandi, Donald, John and Jean; grandchildren, Tyler and Jesse Langdon, Mitchell, Mikhel, Marya and Martin Peters; as well as several nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at 12 noon. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances made to the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation, the Imperial Theatre, or the charity of the donor’s choice, would be appreciated by the family.
