It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother and grandmother, Lee Blackie on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Jemimah (MacKeigan) Lynk and step-father, Jim Boyd. She was a member of St. Pius X parish, Sydney Mines.
Lee is survived by her three sons, Charles (Theresa), Jim (Diane) and David (Debbie), all of Sydney Mines. She will be sadly missed by her granddaughters – “her girls”, Charlene, Samantha, Rachel (Andrew), Katie, Rebecca, Terra (Brian), and by her great-grandson, Regan. She is also survived by her sisters, Violet (Frank) Donato, Sydney Mines, Emma Krvzanowski, St. Catharines, Ont.; a brother, Danny Boyd, London, Ont. and a number of special nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Lee was predeceased by her husband Walter, sister Henrietta, and brothers Bob, Billy, Colin, Fred, Jake, and Jim.
There will be no visitation. Cremation will take place under the care and direction of J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines. A funeral mass to celebrate Lee’s life will be held on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Hughie MacNeil officiating. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
