DOUTHWRIGHT, Cecil O. - 86, Truro, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, February 22, 2009 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born August 6, 1922 in Halifax, he was a son of the late John and Harriett (Fleck) Douthwright. Cecil served in the Royal Canadian Air Force and retired from the Canadian National Railway with 36 years of service. He was active over the years with Truro Lions Club, Immaculate Conception Parish and the Holy Name Society. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, fly-tying, managing his hardwood lots at Sutherlands Lake and family times at the Brule Shore cottage. Cecil is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Elaine (Warnell); daughters, Theresa (Les) Fillatre, Susan (Mel) Kaulback, all of Dartmouth; Sheila Douthwright (Darrell Toole), Abu Dhabi, AE; Marilyn (Brian) MacKay, Upper Stewiacke; grandchildren, Leah Fillatre and Jason Kaulback, Dartmouth; Kristen MacKean, Toronto; Darren Kaulback, Eastern Passage; Lisa and Laura Toole, Dartmouth; Marcus MacKay, Halifax; great granddaughter, Lindsay Kaulback, Halifax; sister, Verna Curtin, Lindsay, Ontario; sisters-in-law, Rita Douthwright, Enfield; Joyce Douthwright, Hantsport; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Yvonne Douthwright, Sister Clement Mary; brothers, Earle, Whitney and Paul. Special thanks are extended to Dr. David Henderson and the Palliative Care Team, Dr. Robert Graham and Dr. Jacob John as well as registered nurses, Jessica Sharpe and Stephanie Roberts, Unit 4 South, Colchester Regional Hospital. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street. Truro, where Cecil’s family will receive friends from 7-9 pm Thursday, February 26, 2009. Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro, will conduct a Legion Tribute Service at 7 pm Thursday in the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 am Friday, February 27, 2009 in Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 669 Prince Street, Truro, Father Dariusz Miskowicz officiating. Reception to follow in Campbell Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Cecil’s memory to Colchester Regional Hospital Palliative Care Program are welcomed.
