Ahti Alfred Poikkimaki
Ahti Alfred Poikkimaki 1931 - 2004 SALEM, NB - Ahti Alfred Poikkimaki, 72, of Salem and formerly of Hopewell Hill passed away on January 10, 2004 at The Moncton City Hospital. He was born on February 1, 1931 in Sudbury, Ontario the son of the late Armas Poikkimaki and Helen (Huhta) Poikkimaki. He was retired from the Canadian Air Force. Ahti was an avid fisherman. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed times spent at his camp in Hopewell Hill, where he eventually moved into. He was a special dad and grandfather who always cherished the times spent with his family. He will be deeply missed by his mother, Helen of Sudbury, ON.; daughter, Tammi Steeves (Stephen) of Salem, NB; son, Kurt Poikkimaki of Toronto, ON.; sister-in-law, Irene Poikkimaki of Sudbury, Ont.; his precious grandchildren, Karri Steeves (Terry Geldart) and Stephen Steeves both of Salem, NB; special niece and nephew, Cathy Poikkimaki and Douglas Poikkimakki of Sudbury, ON. Ahti will also be sadly missed by all of his late wife,Thelma's, family and his numerous relatives and friends in the Sudbury area. Besides his father he was predeceased by his loving wife, Thelma (Sproul) Poikkimaki; brother, Karl and step-father, Eli Nevela. He will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with visitation on Tuesday from 1-3pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at 3pm. He will be laid to rest beside his wife in the Hillside Cemetery, Springhill, NS, in the spring.
