Betty Lois Thorne
Betty Lois Thorne HALIFAX, NS - Betty Lois Thorne of Halifax, passed away into the arms of her Saviour January 11, 2004 with loving family surrounding her. Born in Stellarton, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Ina (London) MacBain and daughter-in-law of Lula Thorne of Sussex, NB. A lifetime member of The Salvation Army, Band Member, Songster (Choir), Sunday School Teacher and Brownie Leader at various Corps. Her husband was employed by CIBC involving numerous moves and she always found a way to serve in some capacity at herchurch. A beautiful lady, private, yet responsive to the needs of others. Prior to her marriage she was employed with the T. Eaton Co. in Moncton and Montreal. Recently she was employed by Sears in the Halifax Accounting Office retiring in 1998. Betty is lovingly remembered by her husband, Charles, of 44 years; her son Stephen ( Sylvia) Halifax; her grandchildren, Andrew, Julia and Evan; also by brothers, Alexander (Ruby) Oakwood, ON, Ian (Myrna), Moncton, NB and her sister Ruth Archibald, Kingston, ON. Betty was predeceased by her parents and son Alan (Age 10 1/2 - 1972). Arrangements under the direction of Snow's Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St. There will be a private period of viewing for family members at 6:00 PM Public visitation will be 7 to 9 Tuesday evening. A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday in Snow's Chapel at 2:00 PM with Capts. Victor and Colleen Cyr officiating. On Thursday, she will be transferred to Sussex for a brief committal service at the vault at 2:00 PM with Capts. Donald and Sandra Rowsell officiating followed by a reception at The Salvation Army on St. George St. Sussex. Only family flowers are requested, donations to Palliative Care, VG Site, VON, The Salvation Army, 1327 Barrington Street.
