Jean Joseph Cyr ROGERSVILLE, NB - The death of Jean Joseph Cyr, husband of the late Helene (McCaie) Cyr occurred at the Miramichi Hospital on Thursday, January 29, 2004. Born in El River Bridge, Baie Ste Anne on February 10, 1917, he was the son of the late Calixte and Mary Jane (Caissie) Cyr. In his earlier years, he was involved in farm labour, fishing and woodcutting. He served his country during World War II as a gunner and was posted in Belgium, France and Germany. Upon his return to Canada he joined the Canadian Merchant Marine and travelled extensively carrying crude oil to different countries. He retired from Coulter's Diamond Construction Co in 1969. He was passionate about fiddle music and listening to Maritime performers. His other interests were lobster fishing, hunting, and visiting his beloved town of Baie Ste-Anne. He was an avid reader and kept a daily record for a number of years. He was a loyal and active member of the Canadian Legion #38, member of Le Club d'Age d'Or de Rogersville and member of the Monument Assumption. He leaves to mourn him, three children, Geraldine (Jean-Guy) Richard of Rogersville, Jean-Paul (Geraldine) of Bathurst, Anne Marie (Joseph) Fitzgerald of Hampton; three grandchildren, Jonathan Cyr of Bathurst, Melanie (Donnie) Kellar of Halifax, and Natalie Fitzgerald of Halifax.He also leaves a sister, Yvonne (late Patrick) Martin of Baie Ste-Anne; a brother, Ovila (Ethel) of California; and several nieces and nephews. His sister, Philomène (late Alphée) Mazerolle predeceased him. Resting at the Rogersville Slumber Room, with visitation on Thursday evening from 7 to 9 pm and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Francois De Salle Roman Catholic Church on Saturday at 11 am. Interment in the church Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to the Parish Cemetery of the Miramichi Regional Health Authority Palliative Care Unit. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Maher's Funeral Home, Miramichi. Phone 773-4321.
