Olive Ruth (Buchanan) Franklin passed away Friday, February 20, 2009 in Prince Albert at the age of 88 years. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 27 at River Park Memorial Chapel. Officers and members of the Royal Canadian Legion will confer veteran\'s honours. Olive is survived by her husband Melvin George Franklin; her daughters Faye (Dave) Wetherow, Fern (Kelly) Fyrk, Glenda Olmstead, Glenice (Cal) Newsham, Merna (Rick) Knoke, Melda (Al) Wiker; her grandchildren Chris Svingen, (father Marv Svingen), Tammy Hegland, Heith and Ryan Olmstead, Wade Newsham, Conrad, Trevor and Kara Wiker, Kaela, Maitlan and Browen Knoke, Logan Franklin (mother Jill Franklin); her great-grandchildren Syrus and Solani Svingen, Jonah, Landen and Emma Hegland, Rebecque, Brecken, Jenel and Katrina Olmstead, Mary-Jane, Brett, Matthew, Taylor and Tianna Olmstead, Wayen and Joslyn Newsham, Riley Wiker and Aidan Knoke-Gola; her brother Floyd (Marg) Buchanan; her sisters-in-law Peg and Ethel Franklin. She was predeceased by her sons Perry and Harold Franklin; her granddaughter and son-in-law Tonya & Bob Wick; her granddaughter Amber Svingen; her son-in-law Pete Olmstead; her brother and sister-in-law Lloyd and Alice Buchanan; her sister and brothers Alberta, George and Harold Ferris. Olive was born February 29, 1920 to Mary and Arthur Buchanan in Indian Head, SK. She was raised on a homestead in Eldersley area from age 13. She joined the Canadian Women\'s Army Corp and did admin work for the pipe band both in Canada, Scotland, England, Belgium, France and Holland. After the war Olive returned to Eldersley and married Melvin. In 1948 they settled in Prince Albert, where they raised their family. They retired and moved to Candle Lake in 1980. Interment will take place in the Garden of Christus, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. Family and friends may send email condolences to www.riverparkfuneral.ca.
