Blake, Sgt. William “Bill” Isaiah - 86, Truro/Hilden. It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Sgt. William I. Blake on Feb. 23, 2009 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Shubenacadie, Bill was a son of the late John and Mary (Baillie) Blake. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. Bill left the armed forces and became a bricklayer by trade. Once the Korean War broke out he rejoined the military and became a career soldier. After 32 years of service to his country, he retired and worked as a school bus driver, then a civil servant at CFB Debert. His final retirement was in 1983. Bill was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro for many years. His family, his garden and bowling were his passions. Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret (Connors); son, Barry (Wendy), Amherst; daughter, Brenda, Truro; grandchildren, Keri (Jason), Kimberly (Blair), Melissa (Jason), Karen, Candace (Allan), Kristopher; great-grandson, Ethan Blake; several nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law. Bill was predeceased by sisters, Olive, Lillian (Clarence), Kathleen (Carl), Bessie (Josh), Marjorie (Jack), Ruth (Andy); brothers, Thomas, John (Helen). We wish to thank the VON and Palliative Care Staff of the Colchester Regional Hospital. A special thanks to Beverly, Allison, Debbie, Heather, Janet and Lisa. You were our angels on earth. Also a special thank you to Veterans Affairs for all your help and support. Visitation will be held this evening from 7-9 pm with a Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26 Tribute at 6:45 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, February 26th at 11:00 am in Immaculate Conception Church, 669 Prince Street, Truro with Father Dariusz Miskowicz officiating.
