Helen Louise Martin 1920-2004 Helen Louise (Fownes) Martin, 83, of Steeves Mountain and formerly of Weldon passed away peacefully on March 3, 2004 at the Moncton City Hospital with her loving family by her side. Helen was born in Hopewell Cape on July 18, 1920 the daughter of the late Lester and Viola (Taylor) Fownes. Helen was a homemaker, her family was her life. In her earlier years, she was a former member of the Weldon Baptist Church where she was very involved teaching Sunday School, participating in Bible Study and was Chairperson of the Social Committee for many years. Then, later in life, after moving to Steeves Mountain, she became a member of the Steeves Mountain Baptist Church. Helen loved to cook and baking was her passion. She was a very giving person who always put others first. She was known for her warm and tender heart. Helen had a true gift of hospitality. She will always be remembered for her kind and caring manner. Her family feel blessed to have had such a role model in their lives and will continue to cherish her memory. She also touched several people in her life and had many dear friends. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed by her loving daughter, Gail Dryden (Willis) of Steeves Mountain; five grandchildren, Terry Dryden (Susan) of Steeves Mountain, DeeDee Whiteley (Chris) of Steeves Mountain, Shandi Mitton (Jeremy) of Steeves Mountain, Heather Walker (Bruce) of St. Andrews, Holly Wynter (Leonard) of Chicago; seven great grandchildren, Logan, Robert, Zackery, Kyle, Kaylah, Madyson and Julie; her only niece, Betty Collins (Charles) of Riverview. She will also be deeply missed by her adopted daughter and best friend, Anne Shaw (John) of Colpitts Settlement. Helen was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Lewis Gerald Martin; son, Carl Brewster; brother, Jack Fownes. She will be resting at the Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Rd., Moncton on Friday evening from 7 to 9pm. The service will be held at the Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home on Saturday, March 6, 2004 at 2:30 pm with Rev. Rick Thomas officiating. Internment will be held in the Mountain View Cemetery, Lower Cape in the spring. Donations to the Friends Of The Moncton Hospital (Palliative Care Unit) would be greatly appreciated by the family. The family will be meeting with relatives and friends following the service at the funeral home for further fellowship, sharing of memories and refreshments.
