Rutherford Hickey Cooper 1928 - 2004 Rutherford Hickey Cooper, 75, of Alma passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at the Dr. George LDumont Hospital with his loving family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Alma on June 23,1928 the son of the late C. Walter Cooper Sr. and Hattie (McKinley) Cooper. Rud last worked as a Heavy Duty Mechanic in Fundy National Park. He attended the St. Stephen's United Church. He had been a member of the Alma Fire Department for over 55 years of which he was Fire Chief for many of those years. He also served as a Councillor then as Mayor for the Village Of Alma. He was a Director for the Fundy Trail Committee, a member of the Alma Recreation Council and also a member of the Alma United Cemetery Committee. Rud was very active in his community and was always willing to help. He was known for his hospitality and his jolly laugh. He will be sadly missed in his community. Rud loved the times spent with his family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Rud was a real family man who's family meant everything to him. He was very proud of the family he and Georgia raised, often bringing them up in every conversation. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and will always be remembered. He will be deeply missed by his loving and devoted wife, Georgia (Armstrong) Cooper; his four daughters, Sharon Tower (Ronald) of Albert Mines, Juanita Cochrane (Dale) of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, Arlene Haslam (Blaine) and Rhonda Rossiter (Vernon) both of Alma; four sons, Charles Cooper of Hillsborough, Darryl Cooper (Pam), Kevin "Minnie" Cooper, Terry Cooper (Vera Lynn) all of Alma; son-in-law, Paul Beers of Harcourt; sisters, Frances Armstrong and Elsie O'Regan (John) both of Alma; brother James Cooper (Gloria) of Fredericton; sister-in-law, Hazel Cooper of Sackville; brother-in-law, Greg Stevens of Norton; his precious 12 grandchildren and one great grandson; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved children, son, Gary and daughter, Louise Beers; brother, C. Walter Cooper Jr.; sister, Margaret Stevens He will be resting at the St. Stephen's United Church, Alma with visitation on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the St. Stephen's United Church on Saturday, March 20, 2004 at 3:30pm with Rev. Steve Burube Officiating. Interment will be held in the Alma United Cemetery, Alma at a later date. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the St. Stephen's United Church would be greatly appreciated by the family.
