It is with great sadness, that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Mary Carmella Currie. Mom passed away at her home in Dominion, surrounded by her family and friends on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009.
Born in Reserve Mines, Carmella was the daughter of the late George and Grace (Robinson) MacDonald.
Carmella was a loving mother and a wonderful friend. She was always there to lend an ear or a helping hand to anyone in need. Carmella was a member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport.
She is survived by sons, George, Danny and John (Debbie); daughters, Amelia and Grace Somerton (Billy Jardine) and six grandchildren, Lawrence, Jason, Jeremy, Joshua, Victoria and Coady.
Also surviving are siblings, Jerry MacDonald (Shirley), John R. MacDonald (Karen) and a sister Christella MacDonald.
Carmella was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence and two sisters, Amelia MacDonald and Cle Martell.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
The funeral mass officiated by Rev. Gerald Campbell will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport, followed by a reception in the parish hall. Interment at a later date in the parish cemetery.
