Wilbur Wainwright "Pappy" Weston 1911-2004 NEW HORTON, NB - Wilbur Wainwright "Pappy" Weston, 92, of New Horton, NB, passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2004 after a lengthy illness at the Forest Dale Nursing Home, Riverside-Albert. "Pappy" was born in Fredericton on July 7, 1911, the son of the late John R. Weston and Mabel (Wilbur) Weston. He was a member of the New Horton Baptist Church since 1926. He was the last Lighthouse Keeper of Grindstone Island and a Fisherman by trade . He has been retired from the Department of Transportation since 1975. His love of country music made him an accomplished musician and fiddle player having played fiddle from the age of 9. In October, 2000, he was inducted into the New Brunswick Country Music Hall Of Fame for his contribution to "Old-time Fiddling". Pappy wrote a book of his memoirs, "Stories About Me and People I Have Known", about times throughout his life. It shows how special his family was to him and how he cherished the times spent with them. He was a very special person who left his mark on all those who knew him and he will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by his devoted and loving wife of 71 years, Ruby (McKinley) Weston of New Horton; his two daughters, Freda Kennie (Donald) of New Horton, Betty Weston (Brian) of Fredericton; his two sons, Ken Weston (Marie) of Riverview, Fred Weston (Norma) of Lower Coverdale; his 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; he will also be missed by his five sisters, Doris, Rhoda, Joyce, Norma, Jackie; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son Victor Weston in 1998 and a sister Jean. He will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with visitation on June 24th,Thursday evening from 7 to 9pm. The funeral service will be held from the Albert County Funeral Home on Friday, June 25, 2004 at 2pm with Rev. David Keith officiating and Pastor Ralph Hopper will be providing music and assisting in the service. Internment will be held in the Bayview Cemetery, Harvey. Donations to the New Horton Baptist Church or to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family. Arrangements are in the care of the Albert County Funeral Home, 734-2780.
