Eldon R. Libby

Eldon R. Libby Eldon R. Libby, 85, of Veterans Health Care Center, Moncton and formerly of Riverview, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, July 6, 2004. Born in St. Stephen, son of the late Eldon and Sarah (Rolls) Libby. After returning from Overseas, where he served in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps, he went to work for Ganong Brothers in St. Stephen, NB, in the shipping room. In 1948, he moved to Moncton and continued to work for Ganong's as a Commercial Traveler and was on the road for 35 years until retirement, then working for the Corp of Commissioners for ten more years. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church, Riverview, where he served on various boards in past years. He was active in the Masonic Order for over 50 years. He became a Mason in St. Stephen, later joining Coverdale Lodge #52 F and AM, served as Worshipful Master in 1968, and was appointed Senior Grand Warden of the Grand Lodge of NB, where he received the William G. Quinn Award from the Grand Lodge of NB. He was a member of the Past Masters Unit, where he was made an Honorary Member, member of The Lodge of Perfection and the Royal Order of Scotland, member and Past Patron of Fidelity Chapter #36 O.E.S., served as Patron for two and a half years, made honorary member in Havelock, Shediac and Petitcodiac Chapters. Past Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of NB in 1989-90, member and Past President of the Moncton Shrine Club and life member of Luxor Shrine Temple, Saint John. He was a member of Moncton Legion #6, received a life membership from the Riverview Veterans & Armed Forces Association. Veteran of the 2nd World War, served overseas in Continental Europe. Eldon will be sadly missed by his wife of over 55 years, Elizabeth May (Armstrong) Libby; daughter, Patricia Wallace (Robert) of Kitchener, ON; son, Gordon (Sandra) of Vancouver, BC; grandchildren, Jack, Sarah, Kimberley, and Jill; great grandchildren, Morgan and Matthew; sisters, Lillian Hill of Saint John, Jean Church (Bob) of West Roxbury, MASS; nephew, Bill Robinson; niece, Susan Rose; several cousins. Predeceased by one sister, Olive. No visitation hours by personal request. Riverview Veterans and Armed Forces Memorial Service Sunday 6pm; Coverdale Lodge #52 Memorial Service 6:15 Sunday; Fidelity Chapter #36 O.E.S. Sunday 6:45pm, all at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995). Funeral Service at St. Paul's United Church, Riverview, Monday, August 23, 2004, 2:00pm, with Rev. Shawn Redden officiating. Reception following the service. Interment, St. Stephen Rural Cemetery, St. Stephen.
