Edward Horace Wortman
Edward Horace Wortman OXFORD, NS - Edward Horace Wortman, 81, Oxford, Cumberland Co., passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 21, 2004, in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst. Born in Boundry Creek, Westmorland Co., N.B., he was the son of the late Bertram C. and Mary E. (Lounsbury) Wortman (Salisbury, N.B.). He spent his early years in Salisbury and he began his career as a signalman with the Canadian National Rail. After meeting his wife, the former Beth Russell, he joined his father-in-law in the pharmacy business, operating R.D. Russell Drug Store in Oxford, which he continued to operate until his retirement. Eddie loved his work and enjoyed his many customers and business associates. During his working years, he was an active member of the Oxford Lions Club and held several offices in that club. Surviving are daughters, Sandi Lockhart (Scott MacGregor), Truro, Susan Vaughn (Doug), Ottawa, Ont; son, Doug Wortman (Linda Daigle), Oxford, and Moncton, N.B.; grandchildren, Dan and Katie Wortman, Oxford, Todlynn Lockhart MacPherson (Andy), Truro, Alana Lockhart Gulevich (Chad), Jasper, Alta; best friend, Eva Betts, Oxford; sisters, Joan MacKnight (Warren), Moncton, N.B., Ruth O'Blenis (Evan), Salisbury, N.B. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Beth V. Russell in 1969. Cremation has taken place at the request of the deceased. Visitation will be held at the Wortman home, 4852 Main St., Oxford, on Thursday, August 26, from 6 to 9 p.m. Private family graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 27, in Oxford Pine Grove Cemetery, Rev. Gary MacDougall officiating. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrust to Allen's Funeral Home, 60 Water St., Oxford.
