James G. Dargavel SAINT JOHN, NB - Surrounded by a loving family and close friends, James G. Dargavel (Jim) passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, October 7, 2004. Born in Molus River, NB, to Lyle and Agnes (Gaylor) Dargavel, he spent his early adult life in the army, moved to Saint John in 1969, married Joan and raised a family. He worked as a mechanic at Woolco, for the City of Saint John and then at Parkway Ford until he retired due to illness. For those who knew him, he was not one to sit still for very long and was involved in many volunteer activities over the years. When Jim had something to sell, nobody could refuse him. He helped form the East Suburban Little League and coached that as well as hockey. He was a foster parent. Jim was president of the Schizophrenia Society and a 4th degree Knights of Columbus Council 8364. He was a major fundraiser in the early days of Play Ball for St. Joseph's and in his later years, he did what he could to support the Canadian Diabetes Association. He gave one hundred and fifty percent to everything he did, including his battle with Kidney Disease and the many complications over the last few years. His strength of character and strong belief in his faith consoled him and kept him going through the difficult times. He was predeceased by his parents, Lyle and Agnes; his sisters, Winnie, Pat, Josephine, Dorothy and Blanche; his brothers, James Lyle, Thomas and Lee; as well as his daughter, Patricia. He will be sadly missed by many, especially by his loving wife, Joan (Murphy); his children, Dana, Terry (Sandy), Larry, Raymond Landry (Rachel), Doug Landry (David), Bethany and Sean Michael (Serge), Linette Lawley (Paul); daughter-in-law, Iris Dargavel; grandchildren, Jamie, Jolene, Tera, Jessica, Meghan, Katlyn, Nathaniel, Isaac, Jacob, Noah, and Janessa; Great Granddaughter, Kiara; brothers and sisters, Beatrice, Eileen (Charles), George (Elsie), Donald and Jean. Special friends close to Jim and Joan include Cecile and Dave Wheaton, Jack and Theresa Dunlop, Roly and Phyllis McIntyre, Kenny and Velma White, Joanne and Brian Boudreau and Gary Dunn. Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (646-2424) with visitation on Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Joachim's Church on Saturday, October 9, 2004 at 10:00am. Graveside prayers and Interment will take place in St. Bartholomew's Cemetery, Molus River, NB on the same day. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kidney Foundation, Diabetes Association, Schizophrenia Society or to the charity of the donor's choice. A tribute to a veteran service will be held at the funeral home Friday evening at 7pm., followed by prayers by the Knights of Columbus. www.fundyfuneralhome.com
