Marie Jean Connell
Marie Jean Connell 1923 - 2004 Marie Jean Connell, a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, of ProTem Special Care Home, and formerly of Lester Avenue, Moncton passed away at her residence on Friday, November 5, 2004, at the age of 81. Born in Truro, NS, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Catherine (Sullivan) Fraser. She began her career as a secretary at Marven's and later, after her children were older, was employed as a switchboard operator at T.A.S. on Alma Street, Moncton. Marie faithfully attended St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church and was an active member of the C.W.L., having held several offices, including President. She was the C.W.L. representative to the Moncton Council of Women and also on the Archidiocesan Council. Other offices Marie held included President of the Ladies Auxillary at St. Patrick's Family Centre, Treasurer and Secretary for the Moncton Lions Senior Citizen's Club, acting Secretary and President with the Moncton East Women's Liberal Association and Recording Secretary for the Ways and Means Committee with the Greater Moncton Women's Liberal Association. In 1993, Marie was awarded the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of Canadian Confederation by the Right Honourable Ramon John Hnatyshyn for her contribution to her community, Canada and fellow Canadians. Marie is survived by six daughters, Catherine Leger (Raymond) of Memramcook, NB, Maureen Edgar (Don) of London, ON, Dorothy Zirpolo (John) of BirchRidge, NB, Geraldine Boulay (Georges) of Moncton, NB, Mary Bhagan (Allan) of Lunenburg, NS, and Carolyn Chase (Brian) of Kingston, NS; two sons, William Connell (Gail) and Michael Connell, both of Moncton; as well as 21 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been predeceased by her husband, Gerald; her sister, Dorothy Smith; her brother, Lloyd Fraser; infant brother and infant sister. Marie is resting at Tuttle Bros. Funeral Home, 171 Lutz Street, Moncton, NB. Visitations will be Monday, November 8, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Parish prayers and sharing of memories will be offered Monday at 8:30 pm at Tuttle Brothers Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at 10:00 am with Father Allison Carroll officiating. Interment will be in the Shediac Road Roman Catholic Cemetery. Donations may be made to the memorial of donor's choice.
