Leo Wilfred Sonier 1919 - 2004 Leo Wilfred Sonier passed away at the Veterans Health Center in Moncton on Sunday, November 14, 2004 at the age of 85 years. Loving husband of Louise Sonier (nee Crawford) for 55 years, Leo was a wonderful father to Ross (Loredana) and a loving grandfather to Matthew and Christina. He is also survived by four sisters, Flora LeBlanc (Laurie), May Gould (Len), Lorraine Allain all of Moncton, Cemida LeBlanc of Memramcook; and sistersin-law, Dorothea Bunting of Kodiac, Alaska, Theresa Sonier of Moncton, Maria Sonier of Waltham, Mass. He was predeceased by a sister, Colombe Dupuis; and brothers, Laurie and Clovis. Leo was born in College Bridge, NB, on September 27, 1919, the son of the late Wilfred and Evangeline (Melanson) Sonier, who predeceased her son at the age of 111 years. A veteran of the Second World War, Leo served with the R.C.A.M.C. 14th Canadian Field Ambulance in England, France, Italy, and Holland. While in Europe, Leo also served with the CarltonYork Regiment. He retired in 1982 as a Carman with the CNR following 30 years of service. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Moncton Branch #6, and the CN pensioners association. Leo greatly enjoyed spending his summers and retirement years fishing, gardening and spending time with his family and close friends at his camp on the Miramichi River in Blackville. Affectionately known as Pappy to many, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered. All are invited to attend a Royal Canadian Legion Service to be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at 2:00 pm followed by visitation from 2:00-4:00 pm at Fair Haven Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held from the chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at 2:30 pm, Rev. Carroll Mullin officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service in the Garden View Reception Room of the Funeral Home. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, or a Memorial of the Donors Choice.
