Alexander "Allie" Avard Smith 1920 - 2004 Alexander "Allie" Avard Smith, 84, of Dominion St., Moncton passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital. Born in Bouctouche, August 14, 1920, he was the son of the late Frank Smith and the late Eliza Rice. He was a retired blacksmith and welder with the Canadian National Railway from 1941 - 1984. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers and attended St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church. As a young man, Allie was active in various sports, especially baseball and hockey. He enjoyed playing cards and spending quality time with family and friends. He also had a great love for animals. He is survived by his wife, Gilberte "Berte" (LeBlanc) Smith; one grandson Jesse Jost; one sister, Zella Day-Luce of Moncton; one nephew, William DayLuce and by two nieces, Wanda Jonah, Betty Haley. He is predeceased by one daughter, Alexis Smith (1996); four sisters, Margaret, Maud, Gretta, Doris; and by two brothers, Borden and Bill. Resting at Frenette Funeral Home Ltd., 88 Church St., Moncton (8581900) on Thursday from 7 to 9p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4p.m., and 7 to 9p.m. and Saturday from 9:30a.m. until time of departure. The funeral mass will be held at 11a.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2004 at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, Moncton. Interment in Our Lady of Calvary Roman Catholic Cemetery, Dieppe.
