James Rexford (Rex) McDermaid 1908 - 2004 MIRAMICHI, NB - Mr. James Rexford (Rex) McDermaid, husband of Hilda McDermaid, of Chatham Ave., Miramichi, passed away at The Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Friday, December 10, 2004, at the age of 96. Born in Chatham, he was the son of the late James and Nina (Dick) McDermaid. He was a retired employee of the Dept. of National Defense, working as a stationary engineer at the former C.F.B. St. Margarets Radar Base. He attended St. Michaels Basilica, Miramichi. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas with the Royal Canadian Navy. He is survived by his wife, the former Hilda Vautour; one daughter, Sharon McPherson (Blair), of New Waterford, Cape Breton, NS; five sons, William and his wife, Delores, of Miramichi, David (Rex Jr.) and his wife Simonne, of Ottawa, ON, Richard and his wife Evelyn, of Ridgeway, ON, Robert and his wife Susan, of Timmons, ON, and Charlie and his wife Judy, of Oakville, ON; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Irma MacArthur and Gladys McDermaid; four brothers, George, Harold, Alexander and Richard McDermaid. By request there will be no public visitation at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Michaels Basilica, on Monday, December 13, 2004, at 2 pm, conducted by Father John Fraser. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to any charity of the donor's choice, would be appreciated by the family.
