Helene Marshall Cunningham
Helene Marshall Cunningham HILDEN, NS - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Helene Cunningham on December 17, 2004, in Hilden, N.S. She was born in New Glasgow, NS January 20, 1914, to Gertrude (Douglas) and David Patterson Brown, and lived most of her life there. Helene was a long time member of Trinity United Church, New Glasgow and active in the U.C.W. of that church. As well, she was an enthusiastic member of the New Glasgow Gyrettes. She and her husband enjoyed a wide circle of friends over the years, and stored away enough happy memories to last a lifetime. A passionate reader, she was never far from a book, and she never missed an opportunity for a swim, especially at her beloved Melmerby Beach. She also enjoyed skating, dancing, bridge games, traveling and trout fishing with Fraser. She will long be remembered for her friendliness, cheerfulness, and optimism. Her warm smile and concern for others made everyone feel welcome and special. Helene is survived by her devoted husband of sixty-three years, Fraser Cunningham; her three children, Judith Dobson (Phillip) of Dawson Settlement, NB, Audrey Jordan (Bob) of Truro, and Bill of Langley, B.C. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Melody, Susan and Wendy Dobson, Jennifer, Andrew and Darren Jordan, William and Kelly Cunningham; and by seven great grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Katherine Brown; her two brothers, Robert and Norman. A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Church on January 8, at 2:00 P.M., with a reception and visitation following in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests those wishing to honor Helene's memory perform an act of kindness toward someone in need. If anyone so desires, monetary donations can be made to the "Gyro Swimming and Water Safety Program", in care of Ross MacIntosh, P.O. Box 1156, Stellarton, NS B0K 1S0
