It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Dorothy ‘Joey’ Young, on Feb. 28, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in St. John’s, N.L., Dorothy was the daughter of the late Ernest and Lillian (Pearcey) Keigan.
Dorothy was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Sydney Mines, and of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Blair; her three children, Carmie (Chris) Edwards and Michelle (Shawn) MacInnis, both of Sydney Mines, and Jimmy of Guelph, Ont.; five grandchildren, Kristen and Liam Edwards, Jamie-Jo Young, Jamie and Amber MacInnis. She is also survived by her six sisters and six brothers, Edie, Lilly, Edna, Lucy, Jean and Cathy; Billy, Ernest, Jerry, Tom, David and Leonard; her uncle Bill Pearcey; aunts, Jessie, Mary and Lorraine Pearcey all of Newfoundland, and Jean Stickley of Labrador; Anna McCarthy, Marie Anderson and Nora Keigan, all of North Sydney; as well as special friends and cousins, Barb Hutchins and Sandra Collins of Newfoundland, and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was predeceased by her sister, Marie, brother, Dennis, and infant sister, Elizabeth, her mother and father-in-law, Gert and Jim Young, brother-in-law, Arlie Young.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, 10 a.m. from St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Jim Attwood officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre or the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
