Paul Wallace Dawson MIRAMICHI, NB - The death of Paul Wallace Dawson, husband of Betty (Potter) Dawson of Miramichi, NB occurred on Sunday, April 3, 2005 at the Moncton City Hospital at the age of 60. Formerly of Nowlanville, NB, he is the son of Rita (Wallace) Dawson of Nowlanville, NB and the late Thomas Dawson. Paul was a teacher and politician, current Miramichi Deputy Mayor, a member of the Lions Club, Newcastle Curling Club, Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 10, NB Softball Association for several years, was inducted into the Softball Canada Hall of Fame, and two time inductee into the NB Softball Wall of Fame, was a past member of the Olympic Committee, past executive member of the Canadian Softball Association, and has served on many boards and committees both municipal and provincial and one of the original members of the Nelson Softball Association. Paul was appointed Minister of Commerce and Development for the Province of NB from Oct. 30, 1982 - Oct. 3, 1985 and Minister of Income Assistance from Oct. 3, 1985 - Oct. 27, 1987. Besides his wife, Betty and mother, Rita, Paul is survived by one son, Thomas George Dawson of Fredericton, NB; one daughter, Paula Michelle Dawson of Montreal, PQ; five sisters, Betty O'Shea (Mike) of Boom Road, NB, Carmel Conkie (Bill) of Napan, NB, Margie MacDonald (Norm) of Newcastle, NB, Patsy Holland (Vince) of Nowlanville, NB, Merita MacMillan (Blake) of Newcastle, NB. The family will receive visitors at Bell's Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 PM and on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, April 7, 2005 at 11 AM with Father Jim McQuade officiating. Burial will take place in the Black River Community Cemetery later in the spring. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church Memorial Fund, Black River Community Cemetery Fund or to a memorial of one's choice.
