Passed peacefully away at The Salvation Army Glenbrook Lodge, St. John’s on March 1st, 2009. Born in Hant’s Harbour, N.L. October 19th, 1917. Gertie lived most of her life in Hant’s Harbour. She and Frank lived in Lewisporte for a number of years. Since 1999 she has been living at Glenbrook Lodge in St. John’s. Gertie has been a Salvationist since a very early age, a Sunday School teacher and Home League Member and was Commissioned a Songster at the Hant’s Harbour Corps in 1936. Predeceased by both parents; John and Sarah Soper, husband, Frank and infant son Elwin Lloyd, brothers; Lloyd and Arthur, sister Alice. Surviving: sons Lester (Pearl), Georgetown, Ont., Melvin (Linda), St. John's; grandsons: Sean (Shannon), Georgetown, Ont., Ian (Melissa), Lake Louise, Alta., Robert, Edmonton, Alta., Andrew, St. John’s; sister-in-law, Millie Barry, Mahone Bay, N.S. and many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Green’s Funeral Home, Winterton. Visitation Wednesday March 4th, 11:30 to 1:30 pm. Funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. conducted by Major Vida and Captain Leigh Ryan both at The Salvation Army, Lower Trinity Corp, Winterton. Burial to follow in The Salvation Army Cemetery, Hant’s Harbour. Reception following burial at The Salvation Army Lower Trinity Corp Winterton. Family flowers only. Donations in Gertie’s memory can be made to The Salvation Army Lower Trinity Corps or Glenbrook Lodge, St. John’s.
