Catherine "Isabel" Oliver, New Glasgow, formerly of Hopewell and Centredale, passed away Monday, March 2, 2009, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Centredale, Pictou Co., May 24, 1915, she was a daughter of the late John and Christena (MacMillan) Russell.
She grew up and went to school in Centredale. In 1941, she married R.C.A.F. Sgt. Roy J. Oliver. Sgt. Oliver was posted overseas shortly after the wedding and died in action in 1941. In 1950, she and her parents moved to Hopewell, where she cared for her parents until they passed away. She had lived in New Glasgow since 1997. She was a member of St. Columba United Church, Hopewell, and an adherent of Trinity Church since living in New Glasgow.
She is survived by her sister, Jessie (Robert) Miller, New Glasgow; brother, Fred (Pearl) Russell, Wallace; two sisters-in-law, Betty Russell, Stellarton; and Almira Russell, Halifax; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her five brothers: William, Ross, Robert, Hugh, and Charles Russell.
Visitations will be held 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from St. Columba United Church, Hopewell with Rev. Heather Landry officiating. Spring burial will be in Bridgeville Cemetery.
