Joseph Bernier, 89 of Sydney River, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at The Cove Guest Home, Sydney.
Born in Britt, Ont., he was the son of the late Herman and Dorilda (Charette) Bernier of Ontario.
He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima parish and Branch 12 Royal Canadian Legion. He worked for CNCP until his retirement. He was an avid gardener, who loved spending time at his bungalow at Blackett’s Lake.
He is survived by his wife, Jean (Kenney); daughters, Janet (Mike), Sydney; Susan, Sackville, N.S.; sons, Peter (Eddie), Toronto, Ont.; Brian, Sydney River; grandchildren John David, Trevor, Steven, Amanda, Erica, great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Jessica, Kenna, Breanne; brother, René; sister-in-law, Marg and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sisters, Mildred, Vern, Gert, Nora, Lola and brother, Ambrose.
Visitation for Mr. Bernier will take place on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 6, 2009 at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church with Rev. Will MacPherson officiating. Burial at a later date.
