Walter Ropek, 46, passed away Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alta.
Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Walter and Marie (Deveaux) Ropek.
Wally liked country music, darts and he loved the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was a welder, pipe-fitter and roofer. He was a member of the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Agnes Church.
Wally is survived by his girlfriend, Shirley Lainez; three brothers, Martin Ropek, Dean Ropek (Janeann) and Jason Ropek, all of New Waterford; two sisters in Calgary, Darlene Ropek (Warren) and Cynthia (Peter); one nephew, Chris and his wife, Arron; and two children, Shelby and Harmon.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 6 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, 862-6439. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Saturday, March 7 at 10 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Michael Church, River Ryan, with Fr. Paul MacNeil officiating. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery at a later date.
