James J. Heffernan 1935 - 2005 With saddened hearts, we announce the death of James Joseph Heffernan, 70, of Moncton, surrounded by his loving family, at The Moncton Hospital on Saturday, September 10, 2005. Born in Sydney, NS, he was the son of the late Jacob and Margaret (Emberley) Heffernan. Jim was an active member of his community, both in Sydney as a Draftsman and as an Air Traffic Controller in Moncton (retired 1989). Jim was an active golfer and curler. He was past president of the Beausejour Curling Club and former member of The Moncton Golf and Curling Club. He actively promoted Junior Curling, was the administrator for the NB Curling Assoc. and wrote the Curling Column in the Moncton Transcript for 13 years. He was former secretary of the Silver Broom and Labatt Briar Curling Bonspiels held in Moncton. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus, and an active member of St. Augustine's Council #7940 K of C. Jim will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Nikki; sons, Jim Jr, (Marilyn), Halifax, NS, Robert (Rachel) Moncton; daughters, Karen Bureaux (John), Ottawa, Wendy Walchuck (Jim) Vancouver, BC; grandchildren, Jay, Kate, Ryan, Allison, Johnny, Erin, Christopher, Robbie, and Wayne; great granddaughters, Emma and Chelsea; sisters, Margaret Joyce, Theresa Browne (Kevin), Sydney, NS; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son and daughter-in-law, Ken (2003) and Mary Jane Heffernan (2001); brother, Frank; sisters, Mary MacKinnon, Dot Shea, Pauline Gillis, Alice MacDonald, and Kay O'Shea. Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) Monday, 7 to 9, Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Funeral Mass at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, Wednesday, September 14, 2005, 11am. Reception following the service. Interment Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe.
