Clara "Ruth" Cochran CANNING KINGS COUNTY, NS - Clara "Ruth" Cochran, 72, of Canning Kings County, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, Saturday, November 12, 2005 in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Highland Village, Colchester County, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Greta (Hill) Layton. She was a graduate of Kings County Academy, Kentville and attended Acadia University. She had been employed as a nursing assistant at the Nova Scotia Sanatorium, Kentville. She had a keen interest in music and reading. She was a member of the Canning United Baptist Church where she was Chair of the Deacon's Board, was active with the Ladies Auxiliary and taught Vacation Bible School. She was a life member of the Atlantic Baptist Women's Missionary Society and at various times taught Sunday School and Canadian Girls in Training. She is survived by her husband, Reverend Owen Cochran; five children, Ann (Robert) Taylor, Halifax, NS, Bruce (Laura), Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Karl (Rose), Halifax, Reverend Barbara Cochran, Kentville, Janet Cochran, Dartmouth; two sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" (Donald) Rockwell, Kentville, Sharon (John) Greer, Truro; a brother-in-law, Earle Toole, Truro; eight grandchildren, Natasha (Paul), Cassandra, Anthony, Allison, Kevin, Matthew, Luke and Maria; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by an infant child; a sister, Audrey Toole. Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Tuesday, November 15, 2005, in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm. Wednesday, November 16, 2005 in the Canning United Baptist Church, Reverend Phil Locke officiating. Burial will take place in Maple Wood Cemetery, Windsor. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation or the Canning United Baptist Church - Centennial Celebration. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.
