Marion B. MacLeod 1919-2005 Marion B. MacLeod of Royal Court, born December 31, 1917, passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Saturday, December 10, 2005. Marion was the beloved daughter of the late Stella (Heffer) MacLeod and the late J. Heffer, and stepdaughter of the late George MacLeod. She grew up in a loving family environment and is survived by many cousins and aunts on the MacLeod side of the family. She was very fond of Grandmother Gould. Marion was deeply loved and respected as a friend and volunteer by many people. She worked tirelessly locally, nationally and internationally and often anonymously for the betterment of those in need, especially children. Marion was an esteemed businesswoman and worked in several executive capacities. Following her graduation from Moncton High School and Business College, she was employed by Lounsbury's Vehicle Division as secretary. She then moved on to Dryden Motors as Secretary Treasurer until 1976. She worked as Ward Secretary at The Moncton Hospital for ten years, making many friends with staff and patients alike. Marion never really retired as a volunteer. She served on many Advisory Boards and was the Secretary Treasurer of St. John's United Church, Canadian National Institute for the Blind, The Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada and the Canadian Mental Health Association. She served as the Treasurer of the Residents Association at Royal Court. She held memberships in The Moncton Flying Club, as executive and member, President of the Ladies Beaver Curling Club, Treasurer of the Fort Monckton Chapter IODE, and member of the Moncton Golf Club. Marion received many prestigious honors. She was the first woman licensed Pilot in New Brunswick. She was honored by the Moncton Flying Club during the Fly Up 2000 Graduation Ceremonies. Marion's achievements were recognized in the book about women in Canada aviation "No Place for a Woman". Marion was an avid golfer, curler and photographer. Throughout her life she sought new challenges. She extended her education in many ways; she studied French, took photography courses, carpentry courses and was always competent and dedicated to the task at hand. Marion was a deeply religious person. Her warmth and kindly spirit and friendly smile will be sadly missed in our community to which she was deeply involved and devoted. The family and friends of Marion wish to convey their deepest gratitude to her caregivers and all who have supported her during her recent illness. A memorial service will be held from the Chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home 1177 Salisbury Road, at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 17, 2005. A reception will follow the service in the Garden View Reception Room of the funeral home. Memorial donations in memory of Marion may be made to the charity of your choice.
