Elsie Isabel Carter Ryder PORTLAND, ME - Isabel Ryder passed away peacefully on December 14, 2005 at the age of 96 years and 8 months in Portland, Me. She was born April 14, 1909, in Kouchibouguac, NB, Canada, to Robert and Margaret Annie Day Carter. She was educated in New Brunswick schools until she moved to Maine and attended Gould Academy in Bethel in 1924. In 1927 she moved to Portland and worked in the area until her marriage to Cleveland Lawrence Ryder, on October 4, 1932 in Kouchibouguac. They returned to Maine to raise their family. After her family grew up she worked as a pastry cook at the Spurwink Country Kitchen, Salmon Falls Country Club, Crescent Beach Inn and The Breakers. She was a member of the Second Parish Orthodox Presbyterian Church, The Cape Elizabeth Grange, a Life Member of Longfellow Chapter #61 OES, and Arok Temple #94 Daughters of the Nile. She was predeceased by her husband, Cleve in 1972; and five brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her sons, Dana C. Ryder (Nancy), ofB1xton, ME, Ernest W. Ryder (Joanne), of Windham, ME and Bradenton, FL, Duane C. Ryder, of Cape Elizabeth, ME, and Clayburn L. Ryder of Windham, ME. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren. A sister, Ella Irvine of Hampton, NB, Canada also survives. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 5 to 8 pm Monday, December 19 at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland, Maine where a Funeral Service will be held 10am Tuesday December 20, 2005.
