Leonard M. Coates SCOTCH SETTLEMENT, NB - Leonard M. Coates, 88, of Scotch Settlement, passed away at the Dartmouth General Hospital on Friday, December 23, 2005 following a sudden illness. Born in Coates Mills, he was the son of the late Beverly and Winnifred (Murray) Coates. Leonard was a retired CNR locomotive engineer (38 years service). He attended Congregational Christian Church of Canada and was a member of Acacia Lodge #49 F&AM and Frank H. Tingley #5 O.E.S. Moncton. Leonard was a Veteran of the Second World War, served with the Royal Canadian Army and was very much an outdoors person, enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time in the woods. Leonard will be sadly missed by his daughters, Janet Coates (Simon McGrail), Wolfville, NS, Debra Vitale (Dan), Dartmouth, NS; son, Rodney (Mary) Kincardine, ON; grandchildren, Wesley, David, Jeremy, Benjamin and Elizabeth; special friends of the family, Margaret Murray and the late Mildred Teed (December 2005); sisters, Leona Wallace, Cambridge, ON, Jean Cudmore, Moncton; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife, Jean A. Coates (1994); sisters, Grace, Juanita and Myrtle; brothers, Melvin and Ray. Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton, (858-1995) Tuesday, 7 to 9pm. Funeral Service at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel, Wednesday, December 28, 2005, 11am. Rev. Paul Cumming officiating. Reception following the service. Interment Fairhaven Memorial Gardens.
